I was wondering if it would be possible (and preferable to everybody here) to have chatbox work in opposite direction than it does now...
Right now the chat works more like comments on youtube...how many prolonged conversations do you see there? Not many. And I'm not (necessarily) suggesting any change to match comments btw...
just the chatbox on home page.
It may seem insignificant,
but most internet chat rooms I know of (e.g. chatango) work the opposite way, with the textbox at the bottom, just below the most recent post, with the oldest post at the top. That way one reads the conversation in the intended order reading from top to bottom, which is pretty standard among world languages. This is surely why most chat works this way.
Reading in this (natural) direction with existing chat system. one sees a conversation happen in reverse, which can be a bit confusing, particularly when multiple managers are having a conversation. This is mainly important when a user makes one post, and then quickly adds a 2nd or 3rd post that complete or follow up on the initial one. If you're not watching the chat as the posts are made, one inevitably reads them out of the intended order.
I would assume that making this kind of change would not be particularly difficult or time-consuming for developers, which is the only reason I am making it at all. What do you think?
