How does one become a moderator.
« on: September 24, 2013, 06:07:59 PM »
:D One day someone might ask me to be a moderator... and on that day I will say yes. Just a post inquiring as to how one becomes a moderator in GKO forums?

You can always email admin and ask...though without the ability to ban spammers, all we can do is delete their posts...one at a time   :'(

Also, there are some subforums without moderation (GKO language translation and ask admin)...only admin can delete spam there  :(

The forum needs a mechanism (like many others have) when a member makes several posts in a small amount of time (say 3 or more in under 10 minutes), they must confirm they are not a spam bot to continue making posts.

I agree with that. Forums are an important tool for new and experienced managers. Spammers destroy the conversations and often kill topics.  :'(

SMF has this option in ACP (Admin Control Panel), you can set up flood control time and stop spam machines from trashing forum.
BTW forum could use some mods like this http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1523. It would stop fights about double posting.

This would work for many subforums but not player transfer ads. Most player transfer adverts are nothing but duplicate posts designed to bump the post with new prices, players etc. Bumping one's own post would become impossible with this mod. I don't know if this software could be used only in select subforums; if so it would be great!

This mod i linked has option's like "time set" where you set period of time for example 60minut and if same user posts 2 msg in row in this time they got marged into one post. You can set this to 6h or 12h and problem is gone ;).
Same way about flood and spam bots, there are mods for this and they are easuly to install(acp in this smf version has in global configuration anti spam/flood controls just need to set them up, change 0 to 1(off to on) and set the time limit between new threads)

Silly question to ask, but the I have been told that the only dumb question is the one not asked, how does a person become a judge and get invited to judge competitions?

Sincerely,

Bruce.
