[suggestion] improve the bid system
« on: September 28, 2011, 09:16:16 AM »
Hello,

The way it works is quite original and that's positiv but something is worrying me... When a player is disputed, there is often the case that in the last second, someone check with scout what is the highest bid, and place a bid just above it. Ok I try to do it also, but at the end, this is the last one who did that who can get the player. And you cannot be sure to be the last. One solution is to overpay the player, so you are sure that nobody will get it, but nobody do it, as everyone want to pay the correct price.

So I imagine a different way to do it.. We would still place a bid, but this bid would be the max you would spend to get this player.
An example : teams A, B and C fighting for a player.

- team A places 500k bid
- team B places 400k bid
- team C places 750k bid

Team C would get the player for 501k. 750k was the max the team was ready to pay, and 501k is enough.
Ok what happen if team D is scouting at the last second, and place a bid at 760k ? Ok team D will get the player, but not only by adding 1k to highest bid, but it will move the final bid to 501k to 751k which is totally different. Beeing beaten in the last second by a 1k overbid is really frustrating, and transfering a player should not the the game of "I managed to be the last to scout".

In that case it's useless to wait the last minute, even the last second to bid, you just have to put the max budget you think the player is worthing and you know that you will pay in any case always the best market price of the player and nothing more. And this is what every GKO manager wants to.

After bidding during last 1 min, the offer time should expand with more 1 extra min. Wich means other teams will have a chance to bid again, if they bid at like 0.54s systiem adds 1 min to an offer, so others will have 1.54 min for bidding. reapeat that until 1 team will surrender

Fact that last bid is only 1 g more then previous isn't problem. It is simple, who give the highest price win. Nothing to discuss. Of course we want to pay less but maybe player is much worth for someone else .

Problem is how we found cheaters? Because if we want a player we must overpay him!!! I've seen many players which value was about 500 k G bought for over 1 000 k G . And this wasn't any cheat.

Although i think the time difference should be bigger (30min minimum) this is a well used and proven method of managing last minute online bids!!  :)

adding 1 min or 30 min doesnt change anything as you can scout only 1 time...

If you scout the player t-1min, and bid, and 30 sec after another player scout him and bet higher,  you cannot do anything, except overpay the player to be 100 % sure to get him.

I've seen many players which value was about 500 k G bought for over 1 000 k G .

Estimated value and market value are not correlated.

Ah yes, but if a player scouts the max bid, then makes a bid within the last 10min or so... the time to buy the player will be set forwards by a minimum of 30min you see?

This will allow the opportunity to out bid that manager instead of being beaten in the last minute  ;)

You can TRY to outbid, but you cannot scout anymore to evaluate how much you need to bid ( or the scout estimation is automatically updated ? ) => you will need to overpay the player.

My point is that the actual system give a huge advantage to the last who scout.

Yikes that sounds pretty intense! Besides, it still really favors those who have the means to be playing during those last minute(s) of bidding.  ::) If we don't have to be online during the matches, then we shouldn't have to be online at the transfer deadline, either, IMHO.

But it won't fix the need to be playing as the deadline draws near, which is like asking us to all be present during our matches. :D

What if, instead, the bidding system worked like this:
1) During normal bidding, no information about the bids is displayed except the minimum.
2) The response from pressing the "get scout expected max bid"  button would not change as the deadline draws near, but would be a constant based on the player's estimated value, age, actual/potential ability and the average going price of similar players over past season, modified (error) by scout level.
3) At the deadline, If only one bid has been made then the player is transferred. Otherwise, the high bid at the deadline becomes the new minimum bid and is displayed for remaining bidders.  Players who made a bid but do not have enough available funds to make the new minimum bid are removed as active bidders. If only one bidder remains, the transfer is completed at this bid. Otherwise, the bidding is extended by 24 hours for these users only.  During this :
-You can make one and only one change to your bid during final bidding. This is your final bid, after all. After you confirm the bid, that's it
-You don't have to make a final bid unless your bid was highest at the end of normal bidding.
-The number of final bids that have been made is displayed (to active bidders) until the final deadline. By default, it starts at one (the original high bid) and increases as bids are received.

The main thing this will do is make the bidding process fair for everyone (in a 24+ time-zone world) without needing automatic bidding, and without having much effect on the prices players get traded for. If anything, players will go for slightly higher prices. While this increase will hardly dent the 25% tax on sales, it would also be something that might appease some players who find the tax excessive.
