I've been in this game since the beginning of season 6. This season that is about to conclude will be the 13th of my team in GKO, albeit its manager having been absent for one brief season in which the team was relegated to the forth division of Chinese football.
A middle school student haunted by teenage infatuation when introduced to the game, it would have been impossible to imagine that I would have become an aspiring university freshman in one of the world's most prestigious institutions while finding it increasingly hard to find time for the game. We started off as a pack of more than a dozen classmates colonizing the game; as time went by most of them, including the ones most adept at the game who had had far more success than I did, left in favour of other interests, leaving the underachievers behind.
It would have been impossible to imagine that the first LA8 player ever produced by anyone in my class would have reached 28 years of age; having remained on my shortlist ever since his arrival to the GKO world, he has been made available for 1m by his current employers. Will I make an offer for him? It's too soon to say, although it's important to remind myself that in life certain things weighed far more than money or success.
Finally, it would have been impossible to foresee that the game would have declined from the front-runner of online football management games to one that shies in comparison to its counterparts. It would have been easy to see in retrospect, that a game that lacked the amount of interaction necessary for compelling gameplay; a game that did not possess the required automation to regulate itself properly; and finally a game whose developers failed to plan for possible modifications to the game's code, let alone prospective additional features that would have changed its fortune.
How much longer I will keep on playing I don't know; perhaps as long as the game will be. One thing I'm sure: the second I feel capable of injecting life back into this game, I would get into action straight away. For instead of the moribund collection of webpages that give a distant suggestion of football in its innuendo, the GKO I will always have in mind is a world of magic where words and numbers come to life, a world where brave men and women from around the world gather to give their best and their worst.
